WOMAN OWNED BUSINESS GRANT IIW AWARDS THE 2009

SEO & Website Design San Diego: November 2009: "Investing In Women has awarded a $500 “stimulus package” to a woman owned business, The Underground Railroad To Success. The URS was started by Tanisha Cunningham to teach independence to foster children. This grant will give the non-profit a chance to market their business.

- Investing In Women has awarded their first grant to a woman owned business in the USA. The recipient of the award is Tanisha Cunningham, founder of The Underground Railroad to Success (www.railroad2success.com). The URS is a non-profit that provides a service to foster children aging out of the system to live independently as adults while becoming an integral part of society. This is great for foster children and also has a positive affect on our society as a whole.

“Aging out” is the term used for children who go into foster care, but are never returned to their families of origin or adopted by others. They stay in the system until they turn 18, or graduate from high school, and for the most part, are left to fend for themselves as best they can.

Tanisha Cunningham started URS in January of 2009. A child of foster care herself, she saw the need for foster kids to have additional support when they were no longer eligible for state run services. Soon after her foster care ended, she began a career in child welfare

“I wanted to stay there because my passion had always been to give back, because I knew the struggles of living in foster care, and the fear of leaving unprepared, not having a place to go or having the skills to obtain a job.”

Investing In Women (www.iiWomen.com) is a free business resource site, grant program and marketing venue for entrepreneurs. The organization plans to offer several micro grants in 2010, including grants that are not awarded based on gender."

Virtual Assistant NZ Web and SEO Review

“Lynn and her partner revamped my website early in 2007.

Her brief was to give it a new, professional image and adapt for optimum SEO.

I have nothing but praise for the work and subsequent results of these services. From a non-performing website which rarely generated any enquiries and didn't feature high in any search engine rankings I now receive a steady stream of enquiries and subsequent work from the site.

My site is now easy to find through search engines and Google Analytics proves Lynn's SEO does indeed deliver on her promises. Lynn has been invaluable in her advise and ideas in how to promote my business, often going above and beyond the call of duty.

I have recommended Lynn to many of my clients and consider myself fortunate to have found a reliable, honest SEO Consultant who has exceeded my expectations.”

Chiropracters Website Redesign

I am a Chiropractor here in San Diego, and had Canz Design re-design my website. They are hands down the best web designers in San Diego. I have experience with several other web designers and was extremely impressed by their professionalism, quality of work, and the timely fashion in which they did my site. My new site from canz design is far superior in every way from my previous website; more eye appealing, more modern looking, better functionality, and far more content. I would highly recommend that anyone wanting a brand new website or an overhaul on an existing site should hire canz design, you will not be disappointed.

Frontpage to Database Website

I have been working with Canzdesign for a few months now, they have been creating a new website for me.  My old one was “home-made” using Frontpage and had hundreds of pages and I was spending more time keeping it updated.

Anything is possible with the CMS website system, and it has taken me a while to fully understand this.  I did see the sample websites that they had made for their other clients, but didn’t fully comprehend that the way things are done, and what you see on the site, can be changed and developed to suit your own needs.  This was important to me, as I have been in business for 5 years and have certain ways of doing things.

For example with my website, I wanted all the product categories to be viewable on every page (like my old site did but obviously easier layout with the new CMS system).  Because I sell products on my website, it was really important to me that the product pages had very large images and good text.  So they actually customized the product pages for me so that the images were 300x400 and also that little thumbnail pictures of alternative images were viewable, you just hover your mouse over and it shows the bigger picture.  This is a really cool feature, as the person can see more images and angles before deciding to purchase.  Some of my products had 10 different photos (or colours) and with the modifications they made for me, all these images were now available.

Because my store has over 300 products, navigation was a real key.  With my old site I just had 5 categories of products, and the store pages had a long list of things available to purchase.  But with the new CMS website, we could actually add sub-categories to make it easier for people to find stuff.  This has worked really well.  For example instead of just having “Clothing” section of our breastfeeding products, we separated this into Long Sleeve, Short Sleeve, Singlets subcategories.

It was also really important to me that the store had an option to display the prices in different currencies.  This has been added now specially for me. The prices are shown in my default currency (New Zealand dollars) and then there is a secondary currency you can choose.  I decided to have US, AUD, Euro – but could have chosen any.

The other thing I have to tell you about Canzdesign is that with the beauty of the internet you can work with anyone anywhere in the world.  I’m in New Zealand and they are in San Diego, but that has not hindered our work at all.  It has actually been to my benefit, as when I am doing my work late at night, they are online too.  Sometimes they stay up to the wee hours of the morning when we are going through things together.  I can never tell what time it is with them, as they work around the clock it seems, but it has definitely worked to my advantage.

I do recommend the services of Canzdesign very very highly.  Choosing to go with them, and the outcome as been very worthwhile for me.  This is my beautiful new website they have made for me.  Please feel free to contact me if you are not sure about them, or hesitant.  I am an independent real life person, and can talk to you.

Now I can spend my time with my family and handling sales which are pouring in since people have seen the new website and sales were good on the old site but this new site is SOOOOOO easy.

Rebuilding Homebuilt Tourism Website CMS

Written about 2 years ago.

In the last two months we have engaged CANZ Design to develop a new database and design and adding the booking system for our website plus SEO for our website.
Based on our initial development work we extended the contract so that CANZ Design now update and maintain our online booking system.
The key criteria for awarding this business to CANZ design were the following factors:
  • Quick response time to questions
  • Ability to handle a number of different tasks at the same.
  • Attention to detail – our booking system is reasonably complex with multiple rates for different rooms and season.
  • Good knowledge of the internet and different tools available.
  • Dedicated to the tasks. No matter what time of the day responses have been fast and courteous.
  • Have redeveloped our website with a new database which will allow our business to grow quickly over the next few months.
  • Handled the many questions and changes with minimal effort.
We have no hesitation recommending CANZ Design to other clients and are more than happy to be contacted to discuss our experience.

Rebuilding A Large Homebuilt Website

I had a quote request today to rebuild a hand built website of over 1000 webpages, pages were built in a number of different programs including several versions of Corel WordPerfect and Frontpage

Rebuilding a large hand-built website onto an easier to manage CMS website can seem to the website owner, a daunting prospect, but can cost much less than you would expect. Especially if the owner wants to help out with moving pages from the old site to the new website and they usually do want to stay in control of their website.
Read this review from someone we just helped move onto our SEO friendly CMS
Review for Rebuilding a 700 page E-commerce website built in frontpage into a new CMS

This was the reply I sent for rebuilding and doing SEO for a 1000+ website.

Hi Grace.

I’m Lynny the SEO for CANZ Design.

With the very limited information you have here and on the quote request, and looking at your site in Google, it looks as though you have about 1090 pages indexed by Google, and perhaps more not yet found.

I can see that one problem you have is lack of navigation on the site only links back to the home page. Still someone has worked long and hard on your site, how many visitors are you receiving now each month?

It would be irresponsible to give you a accurate quote for both the rebuilding and the SEO we'd need to discuss more, exactly what, if anything you are wanting to do to help, someone has worked hard on this site and maybe happy to carry on working.

We have a website that would allow you and your staff to add pages yourself with ease,(CMS) and in fact we have just finished a website of 1700 pages, the owner did most of that work transferring pages from her old site herself.

You maybe interested in reading that clients review of the site http://canzdesign.blogspot.com/2009/09/review-for-content-managment-system-cms.html her site sells breastfeeding products and has breastfeeding advice.

Do you sell products, or would you like to sell products, we have a store module that works with PayPal.

Oddly enough, the SEO would be easier and cheaper than you would think for a very large site. Depending on the keywords and how competitive those keywords are.

In Saying that, a ballpark figure to rebuild the site could cost as little $3000 if you and staff did a lot of copy and pasting or as much as $25,000 (for 1090 pages) if we did everything ourselves, we could do the site ourselves in as little as a 4-6 weeks, perhaps less. We have staff we can call on to help.

We’d build the site on our servers, and move it to your hosting severs when everything is done so your website won’t be down for any longer than an hour in the changeover. The redirects from existing webpages would take a little longer, as they need to be done once the site is live.

SEO for the site again depending on the keywords and how competitive they are, could cost as anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 but more likely closer to $12,000, SEO doesn’t require any help on your part, but the cost depends on the results you want to achieve … $12,000 which is what I usually charge for a 40-60 page website. I’d suggest starting with $12,000 and seeing what that achieves in a couple of months after the site goes live, and look at more if necessary. We could discuss this more during construction.

We do offer payment plans especially for the SEO, or the cost of us doing the whole site, to spread payments out over 6-12-18 months if more intensive work is required.

This will give you a starting point costwise, as I’m sure you have to talk to others.

Working from Home or Office

With the advent of the computer and the internet, it's easy to work from home doing several jobs, with clients worldwide.
Working from home may seem like the ultimate job to have, but it can have challenges of it's own.

Sure you can
  • Dress how you like.
  • Work your own hours.
  • Take breaks when you feel like it.
  • Schedules are easily changed.
  • Have no worries about commuting to work.
But also the down side can be

  • Planning a day of uninterrupted day to work is impossible.
  • Friends think they can ring or pop in whenever they find it convenient. And stay as long as they like.
  • You can't answer the phone casually.
  • Clients anywhere in the world will ring you at their convenience, no matter what the time is for you.
  • Local clients will ring you at 9am, not knowing or caring if you just worked all night and have only just gone to sleep.
  • Clients expect emails to be answered promptly, especially if they are sent within your workday, to bad if you are busy doing something else.
  • With worldwide clients, there's no such think as a weekend, and local holidays are not respected.
Depending on the type of work you do at home, often your income is not regular, and related to the work you do. Because there are plenty of other people that can do what you do, often you have to have competitive rates. Competitive mean lower than you would usually charge, often meaning you are living from month to month, no room in the budget to save money for a rainy day.

There are of course many other pro's and cons of working from home, but this is just a few things to consider.

Regards Lynny

Words in Web Design

What use are words in the design of a website?

Too many words, are a mistake on a website.

Think about it, when you go to a website, how much do you read?

Sure once you find the page you want to you might read the words on it, but only if it isn't 50 paragraphs long,

if you are at a website to buy something, all you want is, to first find the product, and once you do find it, you just want to check it's exactly what you want, more often than not if you can see a product from 3 or 4 directions or views, that's enough for you to decide to buy it or not. Our SEF CMS allows you to add upto 5 different photos of the same product

If the photos don't show various features you may want to read a short description

So you may think, whats the use of words on a website, well words are what get buyers to your website in the first place, search engines can't read pictures, so can't rank your website in the search results for just pictures, sometimes on some pages you may need a lot of words, but a few select words that visitors actually read, are far better than thousands of words, that no-one ever reads only the search engines.

These words should to be written by a professional, someone like a content writer, who knows exactly how to write words that people can and will read.

Web Design, Pictures speak louder..

Are pictures or words more important on a website?

Good quality pictures are vital on a website, nothing put's a visitor off more that snapshots or poorly focused pictures.

So you have 4 options, either hire a photographer to do a photo shoot, which costs around 2K and even then you can't be sure you will get that great photo, with perfect lighting.

You can take the photos yourself, just take hundreds and hundreds of photo, on different days, in different light, and then go through them, and find the very best ones, or

Pay your web designer to look for photos at their favourite stock photo bank, or a good web designer will often take photos,

Or it's well worth your sending a couple of days at a stock photo bank, looking for good quality pictures, istockphoto.com has a large range of quality photo's, and most of the web sized photos only cost $1.50 each.

All you do is become a member, make a light box, do a lot of searches, and add any photo you see that reflects your business to the light box, then look at the photos in your light box, and delete and delete until you have about 4 photos for each page on your website. Your web designer won't use all 4 photos, but needs the choice.

Send the lightbox to your webdesigner, and ask them to take a look, they will choose the best photo/s for a page, and then you just buy the photo's your web designer wants.... easy....

Now you aren't going to get fantastic photos for $1.50 each, and the problem with royalty free stock photo's is you could well see the same photo on your competitors website, but for reasonably good photos, if you spend enough time looking you can find some stunners there, there's just a lot to look though a lot of photos to find them....

Buying a rights protected photo, and buying the rights to use a photo exclusively can cost several thousand dollars per photo, just for 1 years use. if you have the budget to do it, then go for it, but most small business' don't have that sort of money, so royalty free photos are a good alternative.

Web Design Is It Enough

Is a great web design enough?

A great web design is great, once your visitors find your website.

But the most wonderful website design isn't much good if no-one can find the website...

So what makes people find your website?

Two things will get to your website found in search engines... A well thought out domain name, and SEO, search Engine Optimization or Optimisation.

You may have hear about SEO or SEM before, but what is it exactly?

SEO is really putting up sign posts to your website, the sign posts appear in search engines, for whatever product service or advice you are selling.

I think of myself as a website GPS, no not Global Positioning System, although it is, Google Positioning Strategist, or I implement a Google Placement Strategy.

In case you haven't guessed, I'm the SEO, Lynny, and I also offer SEO CONSULTANCY I tell my SEO Consultant clients how to do their own SEO

If I set up enough signposts to your website you will get the visitors you want, but more importantly the visitors you receive will spend money.... they whole reason for having a website.

website that is attractive to your visitors, and get's visitors to you website

Web Design Must Speak To Visitors

The look of a website is important...

Did you know that those websites that you occasionally visit that you think WOW, what a great design, are usually websites owners that have hired a web designer, and given them free rein.

I belong to many many business groups online, and have discussed this many many times, the most effective websites, websites that work, websites that do what they are supposed to do, whether that's sell products, have a visitor pick up the phone, or use the contact form, whatever, most successful websites, don't appeal to the owner.

They hired a web designer, and left the design to the web designer. After all that's what you hire them for isn't it.

Web Design is not about what you like, it's about what will appeal to your visitors, make them want to take the next step, and spend money for some reason.

Great web design will make you money!!!

Web Design, What is Web Design?

What is a Web Designer? What is Web Design?

A web designer, is someone that design's the look of your website, they usually have an artistic background and have an eye for what looks good. They also know what appeals to various target markets.

So they will design an attractive looking website, a website that will appeal to it's visitors.

Many web designers, in fact every web designer I've ever spoken to, get frustrated with clients, who although they hire a web designer, then the client decides they know what looks best, and will take an attractive looking design, and insist that they must have their favorite color orange on a website that was designed to be attract other businesses to buy their good, so was designed in shades of blue.

Believe me Orange does not look good with 4 shades of blue that complement each other.

Our designer has built several websites, far more than are in her portfolio, that she refuses to put into her portfolio, because they are so "what the client insisted on" and are quite frankly hideous.

Web Design Hillcrest, North Park, SD, CA

Getting a website designed and build, that is SEO friendly, truly SEO friendly is fairly uncommon.

Most web designers profess they know how to do SEO.

I haven't yet met a web designer that did know SEO, oh sure they may know the basics, the SEO you are taught in school, the SEO services, that everyone knows, but they don't have a real understand of the deep core of SEO.

Even our web designer doesn't know how to make an SEO friendly website, she has a basic idea, but since she sits not 5 foot from me, and we can see each others monitors, I can make sure her websites have all the right mixture in them to make them SEO friendly. And afterwards I can tweak what she does, just to make sure that if a client wants the very best search engine results or rankings, they get it.

We have an SEF CMS (Search Engine Friendly, Content Management System) which for ungeek speaky people, means a website you can make changes yourself on, and it's Search Engine Friendly.

But Still it's possible to make a Search Engine Friendly Website UnSearch Engine Friendly.

Unsearch Engine friendly, now that a new phrase. And it is always possible to make a website more search engine friendly.

Are you confused.... visit www.canzdesign.com request a quote, tell us how much you want to spend,on a SEF CMS and we'll see if we can help, if we take you on as a client, you will never be so well looked after.
