Are pictures or words more important on a website?
Good quality pictures are vital on a website, nothing put's a visitor off more that snapshots or poorly focused pictures.
So you have 4 options, either hire a photographer to do a photo shoot, which costs around 2K and even then you can't be sure you will get that great photo, with perfect lighting.
You can take the photos yourself, just take hundreds and hundreds of photo, on different days, in different light, and then go through them, and find the very best ones, or
Pay your web designer to look for photos at their favourite stock photo bank, or a good web designer will often take photos,
Or it's well worth your sending a couple of days at a stock photo bank, looking for good quality pictures, istockphoto.com has a large range of quality photo's, and most of the web sized photos only cost $1.50 each.
All you do is become a member, make a light box, do a lot of searches, and add any photo you see that reflects your business to the light box, then look at the photos in your light box, and delete and delete until you have about 4 photos for each page on your website. Your web designer won't use all 4 photos, but needs the choice.
Send the lightbox to your webdesigner, and ask them to take a look, they will choose the best photo/s for a page, and then you just buy the photo's your web designer wants.... easy....
Now you aren't going to get fantastic photos for $1.50 each, and the problem with royalty free stock photo's is you could well see the same photo on your competitors website, but for reasonably good photos, if you spend enough time looking you can find some stunners there, there's just a lot to look though a lot of photos to find them....
Buying a rights protected photo, and buying the rights to use a photo exclusively can cost several thousand dollars per photo, just for 1 years use. if you have the budget to do it, then go for it, but most small business' don't have that sort of money, so royalty free photos are a good alternative.
